Prisoners' Advice Service

Friday, July 8th 2016 - RECOOP

The Prisoners’ Advice Service is the only independent registered charity offering free legal advice and support to adult prisoners in England and Wales and is a frequent and valued visitor to the various groups run by RECOOP for the over 50s.

Whilst general group Q&A sessions have been arranged, it also became apparent that the prisoners wanted 121 advice and PAS was able to accommodate this, covering topics such as prison law, ROTLs, parole hearings and on-going police investigation/contact.

As one prisoner at HMP Leyhill said:

“I’ve had two appointments for 121 advice at the Lobster Pot.  On both occasions the Solicitor from PAS was able to offer sound advice and, when the issue raised required further investigation, a written and detailed note of advice was very promptly sent to me. A very helpful service.”
