The challenges facing older prisoners

RECOOP was recently contacted by Amelia Hill, a journalist for the Guardian, who was writing a series of articles on older prisoners.  With our experience of working with older offenders, we were able to provide her with invaluable evidence and context around the work we do and challenges for this growing population and the prisons holding them.

Paul Grainge, RECOOP Operations Manager, says: "RECOOP is really pleased that this is getting the attention it needs to highlight the difficulties for prisons as the growing number of older men and women continue to rise. This is a hidden problem that isn’t going away and we hope that in the near future the Government will agree that it’s finally time for an older offender national strategy."
