Aldo Trust supporting prisoners directly via RECOOP

Monday, October 15th 2018

The Aldo Trust has generously supported RECOOP with a grant of £1000 to be used to assist individual prisoners with small grants in order to buy resources to help them make their period of incarceration a little more comfortable.  We are working with individuals to identify purchases to aid their mental health stimulation, well-being and independent living preparation.

The men and women RECOOP work with have benefitted hugely from this grant:

  • Our Aldo Trust coats continue to be extremely popular. We have purchased a significant number of coats for our men. One said “Having a loan coat made me feel normal on release, and not like a prisoner” and, “I didn’t own a coat and would have been freezing without one”.
  • Working with the Wiltshire County Council Wellbeing initiative, two Health Trainers attend RECOOP sessions and feedback to us on activities being introduced across the prison. “I have purchased a pedometer (with Aldo Trust Funds) to help monitor my steps and help me increase my health, fitness and well-being”.
